IT Technology

Only recently was a mention made by a well-known developer about a company called Voipac Technologies; this name is not yet widely known. If we take a closer look at the company’s website, it will likely become clear why. The
domestic market is too small for the company, and it primarily operates abroad.
Voipac Technologies was founded in 2002 to provide custom VoIP solutions, and the company’s name is derived from this. Among its best-known products from that time were IP and USB phones and many other devices for VoIP communication. In addition, it was heavily involved in the complete development of custom electronic devices for large and prominent companies.

Over time, it became clear that reliance on these unique, albeit large-scale, projects could become a very risky proposition for the company—especially if a situation arose where it would be impossible to complete one of the projects. One such project was the DVB Set-Top Box; otherwise, this innovative solution would have failed due to the discontinuation of the processor’s general use.
The key solution that preceded the development of the Set-Top Box was the creation of a microcomputer based on the Intel PXA2555 processor. This enabled the use of Voipac’s ready-made production documentation and subsequent open-source distribution for all kinds of applications to other developers. The company decided to manufacture universal motherboards and JTAG tools for a specific microcomputer, which was named the PXA255 DIMM Module, and on this basis began selling a complete development kit.

The company achieved great success with this product, which led to an increase in the number of active customers to several dozen.
This, in turn, led to the development of new generations of much more powerful microcomputers with PXA270 and PXA270M processors, which found use in many devices manufactured and developed in various countries. For Voipac, this product line marked the end of its dependence on past orders—which were both time-consuming and financially demanding—and a shift toward focusing on its own development.
