The truth is, it doesn’t differ much from classic skiing, but it simply requires the right technique, and in no time at all, we can become full-fledged racers. For this sport, we need carving skis, whose design makes it easier to ski on the edge. In the past, only competitive skiers skied this way; today, anyone who isn’t afraid and can master the correct stance can give it a try. That stance is extremely important. With the right technique, you can control the skis, turn, edge the skis, or shift your weight. The faster your feet turn, the more the skis will slide. And the more the skis are nicely on their edges, the better the turns will be.
When is it time to hit the slopes?
- First and foremost, we need to feel confident, so a gentler slope is ideal to start with. Gradually, we can choose steeper slopes.
- If we want the correct technique, we can compare it a bit to driving a car. Or rather, to the car’s pedals. We press and release the pedals smoothly and in opposite directions. When shifting gears, we release the gas and press the clutch essentially at the same moment. Carving works in exactly the same way. Once we understand this principle, our skiing will become smoother.

The outside ski always bears more weight
than the inside one. To start, you need to focus on your feet. The principle behind this is quite simple: you must tilt both feet in the direction you want to go. - With practice, we’ll naturally improve our technique. Skiing in this new style will become a real experience on the slopes, where we’ll feel an incredible sense of freedom. Plus, every movement benefits our health.

Which Skis to Choose
Essentially, all skis these days are carving skis. We only have to choose the length, radius, and stiffness.
An experienced skier can choose skis that match their height or are even slightly longer. A beginner should think this through and limit their choice to a shorter length—perhaps even ten centimeters shorter—with a radius under 15 meters. The appropriate stiffness is chosen based on skiing ability. If you’re unsure about your choice, it’s best to consult someone who understands the subject and can offer good advice.
